New website feature goes live

26th November 2023 By Peter Moir Leave a Comment

We have added a new section to the website, and it’s up and running. It goes by the highly original title of GALLERY which will allow us to store all our visual media in one area.  So if you don’t want to read for a while, you can sit back and browse through a number of sections looking a different aspects of Scotland’s shipwrecks through images and video.

SS Byron Darnton

Each section is dedicated to a particular part of the collection which includes old photographs of shipwrecks, underwater pictures of the wrecks today, images of some of the sea creatures that inhabit the wrecks and finally, view a few short videos which record some of our dives over the last thirty+  years.

Vintage Views – As the name suggests, this gallery is a collection of old photographs of vessels wrecked around the Scottish coastline, and in many cases were the last pictures of that vessel before being broken up by the sea or removed by a salvage company.

Wash Day – SS The Prince, Rhinns of Galloway.

Wreckshots – pictures of wrecks we have visited and dived. Most of these shipwrecks are still reasonably intact…..but for how long.

Bow view – SMS Dresden, Scapa Flow

Wrecklife – This section will focus on the sea life that adheres too, or inhabits the many shipwrecks around the Scottish coastline, shipwrecks act as man made reefs.

The ‘bloomin’ stern area of MV Wilmere, Sanda Island

Wreckclips – Most of the videos within this section were shot during the period 1995 – 2015 so quality will be variable, hopefully good enough to watch!

Links to the GALLERY can be found on the HOME page in the main menu bar, the drop down menu provides a link to each of the four sections above. We hope to add more pictures over time.
