Scottish Shipwrecks – new additions

10th January 2020 By Peter Moir 2 Comments

We have recently added a number of new pages to the Shipwrecks section of the website. These new pages focus on wrecks we have dived and provide a bit more detail on location and condition. Further uploads will be made to the Argyll section over the next week, so keep an eye on the site for these. Recent additions include Byron Darnton at Sanda, Annie Melling off Ardnamurchan and Lairdscastle, again off Sanda. The proximity to large lighthouses is purely coincidental!

I wonder if you can answer a question?
On your main page on this site just below its says welcome to Scottish shipwrecks there a photo of a steam drifter on the rocks, I’m wondering if its my grandfathers boat Riant that was converted to a mine sweeper for WW2.
I know the main screensaver photo with all the people who are pulling the ropes is a photo of the boat.
If you could get back to me about this that would be great.

    Thank you

    Willie

Hi Willie thanks for your email. Both pictures are of the Grimsby trawler Dagon GY438 ashore Dundonnie Head, near Peterhead 12 Sept 1934. Refloated by salvage tug Ironaxe and towed to Peterhead for repair. After a full career sold for breaking late 1955. Hope this of use.
