Welcome to Scottish Shipwrecks
Ian Crawford and Peter Moir dived and researched Scottish shipwrecks for over forty years. During this time they amassed an archive of information on over 20,000 wrecks in the waters around Scotland.
This website is designed to provide access to interested parties around the world who share the same passion and interest in this fascinating historical data. Their research resulted in two best selling books – Clyde Shipwrecks first published in 1988 and Argyll Shipwrecks first published in 1994 – both universally recognised as the definitive guide to shipwrecks in these regions of south west Scotland. Subsequent revisions added more wrecks as Peter and Ian discovered, dived and identified them.
Sadly in November 2026 Peter passed away after a battle with motor-neurone disease but, through this website, his legacy of curiosity about Scotland’s maritime past preserved through the county’s vast number of shipwrecks lives on. Ian continues to research and has developed a wide range of contacts in the Scottish diving community who are willingly assisting to identify and record more and more of the deeper wrecks in our waters as diving technology advances provide access to wrecks that previously were out of reach to recreational divers.
Enjoy the site and visit it often.
Ian Crawford.
