We have added some new pictures to our page for the SS Politician, one of Scotland’s better known shipwrecks. Lost off Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides in 1941, the wrecking was given near mythical status through Compton Mackenzie’s book “Whisky Galore” and subsequent Ealing comedy film of the same name.
The pictures come from a photo archive of the salvage firm W H Arnott Young who were on site in 1941 to help remove her valuable cargo of whisky. The pictures give a hint to the condition of the wreck and the task at hand……if you can call it a task!
Thanks go to W Sloan Smith for allowing us permission to reproduce these pictures. For the full story follow the link highlighted SS Politician.
